Bennett Hall

Built in 1919 & originally called the South Laboratory.

Bennett Hall Amphitheater # 2020 is behind the door at the end of the hallway in the photo at right. Alumni may remember it as the South Lab or South Hall Amphitheater.

  • Provided laboratory and teaching space for basic science and clinical departments.
  • Re-named South Hall in 1990 and re-named Bennett Hall in 1995 in honor of the late Dr. A. Lawrence Bennett, former chairman of the UNMC physiology department who worked in the building throughout his entire 39-year career.
  • The building reopened in September 2008 following an $8.9 million renovation.
  • The UNMC School of Allied Health Professions (SAHP) now the College of Allied Health Professions, moved into Bennett Hall in 2008. It was the first time since the SAHP was formed in 1972 that all 10 SAHP educational programs were under the same roof. As of 2023, the CAHP occupies levels 3-6 and offers 15 programs, not including three online degree completion programs.
  • The Department of Anesthesiology administrative offices are located on level 2 due to the easy access to the hospital and operating rooms via the tunnel system.
  • The renovations were made possible by a legislative bill, LB605, passed in 2006 to provide matching state funds to upgrade buildings on all four campuses of the University of Nebraska system.
