Project Health

The future site of Project Health, located at the corner of Farnam Street and Saddle Creek Road.

Project Health, also known as Phase 1 of Project NExT, will provide needed campus enhancements to research, education, clinical and community service missions of UNMC and Nebraska Medicine. The enhancements build capacity in new facilities, as well as build the state’s health workforce through class size and residency expansion.

  • The project includes a new $2.19 billion healthcare facility at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine that will serve as a clinical learning center to train the next generation of healthcare providers, conduct research, and offer clinical trials.
  • Will be built on the now vacant, 7.5-acre site formerly occupied by JP Lord Elementary School and the Munroe-Meyer Institute (which relocated to Omaha’s Aksarben area in June 2021).
  • Will serve as an ultramodern clinical learning and research environment.
  • Will be the primary in-patient clinical hospital for Nebraska Medicine; creating more than 550 beds.
